Be aware, report incidents, and get involved
Workplace violence remains all too common in healthcare, as most every nurse can attest. I’ll never forget feeling as though my heart was in my throat when I was working as an emergency nurse and a patient pulled a large kitchen knife out of her purse while I was alone with her in a triage room. Or the day I treated a colleague after she’d been punched without warning by her patient.
